How to Save Places for Your Trip with Travel Outenza
Saved in Travel Outenza collects the places you want to visit, with photo, address and map.

Whether you are planning a long weekend in Barcelona or dreaming of a tour of Japan, it is often the small tips that make the trip. Think of the café a friend recommended, the viewpoint you saw in an article, or the restaurant you did not make it to last time. With Saved in Travel Outenza, you can save places so that none of it gets lost.

This is part 3 of our guide series on Travel Outenza. If you are new to the app, start with part 1: How to Get Started with Travel Outenza and part 2: How to Create a Travel Itinerary.

In short: how Saved works

  1. You save a place – from a trip, from Explore or with a link, for example from Instagram.

  2. The place lands in the trip’s Saved list and in your own library, My Saved.

  3. In My Saved, you can sort places into your own lists.

  4. When you want to use a place on a trip, you add it – and the trip gets a copy.

  5. When you add the place to the itinerary, it also appears in the Map tab.

From idea to map in six steps: pick a place in Explore, add it to a trip, choose which trip, go to My Saved, add the place to a day in the itinerary – and see it on the map.

Your own travel library

The places you save belong to you as a user – not to one particular trip. Over time, you build your own travel library of places you have found, tried or dream of visiting.

A good tip you saved for one trip is still there when you plan the next one. The lists you build are the backbone of Travel Outenza.

Think of it as a personal travel guide that grows with every trip. The more you use Travel Outenza, the more valuable your library becomes – and the faster you can plan your next trip.

My own library holds everything from glamping in the USA to a massage place in Bangkok and a museum in Vienna. I saved most of them straight from Instagram.

Saved on a trip

Every trip has its own Saved list. It shows only the places that belong to that trip, so you get a clear overview of what matters for the trip you are planning.

If you save a place while working on a trip, it lands in the trip’s Saved list – and in your own library at the same time.

A trip’s Saved list works like a scrapbook for the journey. Collect everything that might be relevant before you decide what actually goes into the plan. That way you can start broad and narrow it down later.

Save places from Instagram and other websites

See a place you want to visit on Instagram or another website? You can save it straight to Travel Outenza with the link.

  1. Go to the post or page with the place you want to save.

  2. Tap Share and choose Copy link.

  3. Go to Saved in Travel Outenza.

  4. Tap + and paste the link.

  5. Tap Add – the place appears as a card in your list.

How does the app find the right place?

Travel Outenza gets information about the place from Google Maps, based on the link you paste. It is usually quick and accurate, but it is worth checking that the right place was picked.

If you only get the city and not the place itself, it is easy to fix. Tap the pin icon on the Saved card and choose the right place there.

My Saved: collect places in your own lists

My Saved is the library of everything you have ever saved. You find it through the Saved button on the trip overview.

Here you can also create your own lists, for example:

  • A list for a holiday you are planning.

  • A wish list of places you want to visit one day.

  • A list of favourites you want to recommend to others.

Lists make it easy to stay organised, even when your library grows. You decide how to sort – by destination, type of experience or who you are travelling with. I keep a separate list for the summer holiday I am planning right now.

Find your lists in seconds: tap Explore and search for the name of the list – for example “Summer holiday” – and all your places are ready.

From your library to your trip

When you add a place from My Saved to a trip, a copy is made on the trip. The original stays untouched in your library.

This means you can use the same place on several trips, without changes on one trip affecting the others.

An example: you have a favourite restaurant in Copenhagen saved in your library. The next time you plan a trip there, you simply add it again – without having to look it up.

A saved place only appears in the Map tab once you add it to the itinerary. Addresses you tap are shown in Travel Outenza’s own map.

An example: on the Saved map you see that the café by the market and the museum are 400 m apart, about 5 min on foot. The old town is 1 km away, the viewpoint 3 km and the beach 8 km. It makes sense to put the first two on the same day.

Keeping them apart stops the trip map from getting cluttered. The Saved map shows you every option, while the Map tab shows what you have actually decided on.

Explore and the community

In Explore, place cards look and work exactly like the cards in Saved. Tap a card to see all the details – and save the place straight to your own library.

You can also share your places with the community, so other travellers can enjoy your tips.

Because the cards are the same everywhere, there is nothing new to learn when you go from exploring to planning. Explore is also a good place to start if you are not sure what to do at a destination.

What happens to your places when you delete a trip?

Your places do not disappear when a trip is deleted. Saved and shared places are kept and collected in one list in My Saved, with the same name as the trip.

So you can safely clear out old trips – the tips you collected stay.

Tips for saving places smarter

  • Save right away. When a friend gives you a tip or you read about a place, save it before you forget.

  • Collect broadly, choose narrowly. Save everything that looks exciting, and pick your favourites when you build the itinerary.

  • Make lists by theme. For example cafés, viewpoints or places for families with children.

  • Use the map. See where places are in relation to each other, and plan your days around that.

  • Share with others. Your best tips can become another traveller’s highlight.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save a place from Instagram?

Copy the link to the post, go to Saved in Travel Outenza, tap + and paste the link. The app finds the place through Google Maps and creates a card with a photo and address.

What is the difference between Saved and My Saved?

Saved on a trip shows only the places for that trip. My Saved is your whole library, with everything you have saved across trips.

Do my saved places disappear if I delete a trip?

No. The places are collected in their own list in My Saved, with the same name as the trip.

Why does a saved place not show up in the Map tab?

The Map tab only shows places that are added to the itinerary. Add the place to a day in the plan, and it appears on the map.

Can I share saved places with others?

Yes. You can share your places with the community in Explore, so other travellers can save them to their own library.
